Poem: Paper People

Did you think when you cut your paper people?

When you fashioned each artifice to suit

What you thought would make yourself

Happy.

When you trimmed the girl

With safety scissors

And chained her to the boy’s hand,

But left his right free.

You cut your paper people,

Paper girl,

Paper dreams

Hoping to turn them into a reality.

Clipping and snipping

Away at every deceit and story

To create a cookie-cutter response.

A fistful of mistakes you dressed

Identically and passed out to the person

You believed could be more than two dimensional.
