Review: The Graveyard Book

The Graveyard Book was written by  Neil Gaiman and illustrated by Dave McKean.

This superb book opens with a murder. The murder of a family no less, the sole survivor is a little boy who is only one and a half. This rapturing tale follows the life of the  young survivor named Nobody Owens. Without any parents, he ends up wandering to a graveyard and is raised by a lovely ghost couple, Mr. and Mrs. Owens. He learns the way of the Graveyard and grows up learning the way of the dead. He explores ghoul territory, goes to school, and meets a human girl and a ghost witch. While learning the way of the living and the dead and trying to fit into both he has an encounter with an indigo man and The Gray Lady. His guardian, the being who offers to take care of/watch him, is in limbo between being alive and being a ghost. His guardian goes off for extended periods of time without telling Bod (for this is his nickname). While his Guardian is off he stays with the Owens. 

I have read this book multiple times and highly suggest you read it, Neil Gaiman really brings the characters off the page and into your mind and is an expert at making the characters feel real.
